Windshield washer fluid has an additive to keep it from freezing.

Windex does not. Also straight Windex is not good for your paint. It is too strong and will remove wax. What is the difference between windshield washer fluid and Windex?
Primarily its the cost. They both have alcohol in them, but windex does not have as low of freezing point. Windex also has a fair amount of ammonia in it so every time you use your washer you will smell ammonia. If you're trying to lower the freezing point to get rid of that annoying ice sheet in winter try adding a bottle or two of rubbing alcohol to your washer resevoir. It lowers the freezing point plus helps clean the road grime off your blades and windshield.

    1. Thank you for clearing that up. I am an artist and was given a tip about using windshield cleaner to dilute acrylic paints for use in my airbrush. I had thought about using Windex..glad I didn't.
