How do I remove the top of my Kenmore Series 70 model 110.24722300 washer?

I am not sure of the name of the part, but the device that clicks when lower the lid of my washer no longer functions (thank goodness that's the problem instead of something more expensive). I've looked into a replacement part (around $30), but I can't figure out how to remove the top from my washer. Any ideas?How do I remove the top of my Kenmore Series 70 model 110.24722300 washer?
