How do you plumb in a washer with cold water only?

We are moving to a new house and where the plumbing is for the washing machine there is only a cold water pipe, how will this work with plumbing in a washer. How do you plumb in a washer with cold water only?
Use a Y-connector.

Don鈥檛 do as others have suggested!!!

You MUST connect both the hot and cold inlets to the cold water supply.

That way you can select a hot wash and it will fill with cold water.

The washing machine will then HEAT the COLD water.

By capping the hot inlet you will not be able to start the machine on a hot wash as it will NOT fill!

You must use two pipes. Hot and cold. Just feed them both from the COLD water supply using the Y-connector.

This post is 100% accurate. How do you plumb in a washer with cold water only?
wash machines do not have heaters to heat water Report Abuse

You can buy an adaptor shaped like a letter ';Y'; on which you connect both the pipes from the machine to the ';V'; and then connect the cold pipe to the '; I ';. A dealer once told me it seems illogical to heat up water in the hot water system then put it into a cold machine to heat it up again.

I always use only a cold water supply for that reason.
you simply connect the washer to the cold supply leaving the hot water connection on your washer blocked off with a cap.

Mine is both hot and cold but I never use the hot washing in cold water only. the hot tap is turned off. Works fine , no problems. Your washer will have a cold cycle only selection on it I'm sure
Lizzee %26amp; John are correct. All you need to do is cap off the hot. A y connector is not necessary. However if you have an electronic front load it requires an actual hot water connection. It has temp. sensors not just temp selectors.
seal off the other connector point at the back of your machine. you can buy the seal from any hardware shop for about 1.50.
I have never seen a clothes washer that heats water.

You can do it either of the ways suggested.
y- connection is correct never seen any water heater built in to washer?
